Here are some frequently asked questions with our answers. When calling other companies, you may want to ask these same questions to compare services.

If you have a question regarding our company or in planning your special occasion with us, please call or e-mail us anytime.  We will answer any questions you might have.

What makes you different?
Grapevine is full time DJ company that got it's start in 1985 Our business is maintained by word of mouth advertising. We do not attend bridal shows. We do not place ads in phone directories or bridal magazines/guides. Instead of investing in advertising to create business, we invest in producing high quality events for our clients, who in turn, advertise for us by telling their friends and family about Grapevine.

How much do you charge?
Average DJs charge an average price - You will be happy to know that we are well above average. We respect our clients and their desire to know upfront what we charge. Just contact us for an instant quote.

Why are your rates higher than some of the companies I have called?
Experience, service and quality.  If the entertainment for your guests is not a high priority for you, and customer service is secondary to price, you might want to go with a company that charges less. We're not the right choice for everyone. We made a conscious decision to do the most we can for each client, rather than the least we can get by with. We do not cut corners and sacrifice quality in order to compete at a low price. Because of that, you'll pay a little more with us than with others. There's no question that you can find a DJ out there willing to play music for you for less money, but the decision you have to make is whether the entertainment portion of your evening is where you want to save a few dollars and shop for a bargain.

Each of Grapevine's DJs have performed for hundreds of happy wedding couples and each has the talents and skills which will help transform your reception from a good reception to a great reception which people will talk about for years, and which you wish would never end.

Why are your rates lower than some of the DJ's I have called?
Because we want to be the best disc-jockey value in Indiana. If that is what you are looking for, call us. 317 852-3353

Do you have a weekly open house?
No. Instead we offer a personal visit with you scheduled around your availability at a location of your choosing with the Dj who would be performing at your event. We will be happy to meet you at our office, your party venue, your home, or nearby coffee shop or restaurant.

When should I book my date?
There is really no set answer to this question. Many factors affect Grapevine's availability, such as event date, time of the event (afternoon or evening), and on what day of the week your event falls. The general rule is - the sooner the better. At times, Grapevine books events as far as two years in advance with weddings generally booked anywhere from 6 months to 18 months in advance. At other times, you may be able to book with much less notice, however we don't recommend waiting too long. The further in advance you attempt to book your event, the more likely Grapevine will be available

Can I see you perform?
You are welcome to visit any of our public performances. We discourage a visit during a wedding reception (unless it is in a public venue) as we feel we are not in a position to invite people to a private event. This also insures that you will not have strangers dropping in during your reception. We do provide, and encourage you to call our recent references and ask if they were happy with our performance.  We will be happy to set up early and meet with you before an event to give you a demonstration of our sound, lighting, set-up, appearance etc.

Important: Every client's preferences, from music to interaction are different.
Visiting a DJ during an event can be misleading. For example: If you see us leading "The chicken dance" during an event and playing Guns & Roses, and you hate group dances and hard rock, you may think the DJ is not right for you.
On the flip side, if you were to see us during a very formal and elegant event, you may think that we are too "stuffy" for your party. We tailor the entertainment according to our client's wishes. Their ideal party may not be your idea of an ideal party. That's why references will be a much more accurate measure of your  potential satisfaction than a brief visit.

Do you provide references?
Yes - You will be provided with a list of your DJ's most recent client references.  Please feel free to call them. They will be happy to share their experience with
their DJ's performance & Grapevine's customer service.

We don't want a "cheesy" DJ.
While that's not a question, it's a comment we hear often.
Grapevine Productions wants your reception to be exactly as you envision it. You have total control of the level of interaction and the music that you would like played, as well as the music you do not want played. Be assured that your DJ will never place the "spotlight"on themselves, and will never force anyone to dance who does not want to. Our desire is to create the atmosphere that reflects your personality and tastes.

How do I hold my date and "book" with Grapevine?
To permanently hold or "book" a performance date, a client must sign and return an Entertainment Contract to Grapevine. A deposit, in the amount indicated on the contract must accompany the contract. This written agreement details all of the pertinent information regarding the event. Contracts can be sent by mail, FAX or immediately delivered in e-mailed .pdf form. When is the final balance due?
Affair balances can be paid by cash, credit card or personal check any time up to 14 days prior to the event date. We will also accommodate any clients who prefer to make several payments over the time period leading up to their event. In this case, we credit your account balance for any payments received and issue you a receipt for such payments.

Do you take breaks?
Plainly and simply - No. whether your party is for 3, 4, 5, 6 or more hours, our DJs are prepared to entertain you and your guests, without any delays, interruptions or breaks.

Should we feed our DJ?
No - Little care is needed to take care of your DJ. Just water him every once in a while. Seriously though..While you and your guests are enjoying your meal, we will be working: Selecting a variety of music for dinner, upcoming events and for dancing. We will also be coordinating with the banquet staff and your other vendors. We will stay available to make any announcements and to take requests, etc.

What do you wear?
Unless otherwise dictated by the client, we wear a full black tuxedo. All clothing is well maintained, neatly cleaned and pressed.

What kinds of music do you play?
What ever you request! Grapevine plays all types of music, from the Big Band era of the 30s & 40s to the hottest tunes of today - including country, Motown, disco, rock, Top 40 dance, ethnic and R & B. Grapevine performers typically carry 10-13 thousand songs on CD to each performance, covering just about every musical genre.

How is the music picked?
Music selection is usually based on three factors. First, you have the opportunity to tell us what you want to hear and if there is anything that you don't want to hear. This gives us the overall framework for the event. From there, your guests' requests help determine some of the music selection. Lastly, the Grapevine performers rely on experience to fill in the event's play list, based on the crowd's reactions and responses throughout the event.

Do you take requests?
Yes - In addition to our clients' pre-planned request lists, we welcome direct requests from our clients and their guests throughout the event. We attempt to play as many requests as possible, as long as they fall within the clients' guidelines and are appropriate for the event and guests attending.

How many songs will be played?
This varies, since song and event lengths vary. The average song is 3 ½ minutes in length. That translates into 17 songs per hour, 68 songs in four hours and 85 songs in five hours.

When do we go through all of the details?
Final planning is generally handled 2-3 weeks prior to the event date.

When does Grapevine arrive at the event?
Typically, your Dj/emcee will arrive at least 1-2 hours prior to the start time of the event.

What type of equipment do you use?
Quality is top priority for Grapevine - from our performances to the equipment that we use. For that reason, we use only top quality, professional equipment designed specifically for mobile disc jockey entertainment. (for the techies: Bose, E.V., Mackie,
Numark, Shure, Audio Technica, Martin are just a few of the brands we use.)

Are you available if we decide to extend our party?
Grapevine guarantees availability for time extensions (overtime) for all affairs with a start time of 3 PM or later. Overtime for events beginning prior to 3 PM may be available but will be subject to Grapevine's and the event venue's scheduling constraints.
